>> Joel Norman received assistance with his utility bills with the help of Salvation Army of Eden, but was determined to give back to the agency that helped him stay on his feet.
He began volunteering in the kitchen where staff discovered his talent for cooking. Mr. Norman was encouraged to apply for a job at a local restaurant and was hired as a cook!
>> Monty Pulliam was involved in a traffic accident in August that left him pinned in his vehicle. Madison-Rockingham Rescue Squad, which receives much of its funding from United Way of Rockingham County, responded and helped extricate Pulliam using the “jaws of life.”
What could have been a fatal accident instead left Pulliam with a broken leg, broken arm and additional minor injuries. Assisted by friends, Pulliam arrived in a wheelchair just in time to share his story with the crowd of about 100 United Way supporters.
