Here's how United Way of Rockingham County, through your donations, is working to improve our community:
In education, we are working to ensure that our youth are successful.
In income, we are encouraging financial stability by seeing that our citizens' basic needs are met, and enabling older adults to live independently.
In health, we are making a difference for people of all ages by ensuring that our citizens are safe, and making Rockingham County a healthy community.
How did we determine these ways of achieving better education, income and health in Rockingham County?
In 2001, after listening to the people of Rockingham County through a community-wide needs assessment, United Way of Rockingham County established five specific goal areas within the categories of education, income and health to help form a united strategy of making our lives and our neighbors lives better. They are:
EDUCATION
-Helping Youth and Children Succeed
The average high school graduation rate for Rockingham County Schools will improve to, and
maintain at, 92% or higher by 2019.
INCOME
-Providing Basic Needs
Meet 100% of the verified food, shelter and clotingh needs by 2015.
-Enabling Older Adults
80% of older adults have a caring relationship with one or more individuals by 2015.
80% of older adults indicate they feel secure by 2015.
HEALTH
-Ensuring Public Safety
100% of emergency assistance calls are responded to within the NC state standard by 2015.
Medical first responders and rescue teams will receive ongoing training and/or certification
needed to provide expert emergency care that exceed statutory requirements by 2015.
Decrease the occurrence of violent crime to 300 per 100,000 people by 2015.
-Optimizing Community & Individual Health
Reduce the death rate from chronic disease to 650 per 100,000 people by 2025.
90% of the population has access to primary healthcare providers by 2015.
80% of families respond "excellent" or "very good" to the quality of palliative end-of-life care
for patients by 2015.
